GlideScope Go, a New Portable VLS
Verathon, has released a new portable video laryngoscope, the GlideScope Go. It can be taken to sporting events, disaster zones, or used inside the hospital for routine and “emergent” procedures wherever intubation and/or imaging of the airway is required. It has a a 3.5″ color screen that can be tilted up and down and availability of snap-on blades for adults and neonates. The device is wipeable with a rechargeable battery lasts for 100 minutes. A micro-USB drive automatically records the procedures for later review.
Epidural Anesthesia System
Milestone Scientific, Inc., achieved FDA clearance for its CompuFlo Epidural Computer Controlled Anesthesia System. This technology is able to provide precise and continuous measurement of the pressure at the tip of the syringe, both helping to guide anesthesiologists while accessing the epidural space and recording the procedure for any review.
As the needle is advanced, the device provides both visual and audio feedback regarding the pressure levels being detected
.
Portable, Calibration-Free Spirometer
A new professional spirometer utilizes ultrasound technology and does not require any calibration or maintenance. It has a rechargeable battery.
A color touchscreen is used to select settings and to review the readings, which are also interpreted to the ATS/ERS guidelines. The spirometer can connect to in-clinic EMRs to upload its readings via a Bluetooth connection to a paired PC or via a USB cable.
Sedation Mask
AXESS nitrous oxide/oxygen nasal sedation mask is designed to optimize comfort, minimize anxiety particularly in children, reduce opportunities for displacement, and allow for easy access to the mouth for dental and orthodontic procedures. It’s lightweight and stays out of the way of the eyes, as well as the nostrils. It works with a reusable scavenging circuit that sucks up unused gas and recycles it automatically without blowing toward the clinical staff.
Bedside Blood Testing System
Abbott introduced its i-STAT Alinity blood testing system. It’s a portable point-of-care device that can be used to test for a variety of metabolites, including blood chemistries and cardiac biomarkers and requires only two or three drops of blood to displays results within ten minutes.
It has a touchscreen display with wireless connectivity as the interface and includes a camera for barcode tracking of samples and results.
Oximeter
Masimo fingertip pulse oximeter measures the respiration rate of patients, in addition to other measurements. The respiration rate from the pleth (RRp), as Masimo calls it, notices how the respiratory cycle changes the nature of the pulses detected by the oximeter. Is compatible for use in children and adults. Bluetooth wireless connectivity is built-in, allowing for easy monitoring of SpO2, PR, RRp, PI, and PVi (change in PI caused by breathing) using a nearby tablet or smartphone via the Masimo Professional Health app.
Injeq IQ-Needle for Spinal
IQ-Needle has electrodes via which an external control device is able to sense the environment of the needle tip, whether it is liquid or still ligament or muscle tissue or a nerve. The technology relies on bioimpedance analysis that can distinguish tissue types at close range, doing so 200 times a second. This should prevent accidents and lead to faster, less dangerous procedures while helping to initiate therapy earlier.
