ProteXsure Safety Capsule System

 ProteXsure Safety Capsule System

Florida firm has announced FDA clearance for its ProteXsure Safety Capsule System that prevents needle stick injuries by offering an easy way to snap on a protective cap to the tip of a needle readying it for safe disposal.

The mechanism advances the next cap into the slot just after the previous cap has been removed. The last ten caps are colored yellow and red to warn the user that the caps are running out and a new ProteXsure needs to be readied. The system works with all needle lengths and sizes, even including bent ones as long as the tip fits into the slot.

Masimo O3 Regional Oximetry System to Detect Hypoxemia in Brain

 Masimo O3 Regional Oximetry System

Masimo has introduced its O3 regional oximetry technology that uses near-infrared spectroscopy to measure intracerebral regional tissue oxygen saturation (rSO2), and is intended for use only with adults above 88 lbs (50 Kg). The technology assists clinical staff to detect regional hypoxemia that commonly used pulse oximetry (SpO2) is unable to spot. Additional module that can be used along with Masimo’s Root patient monitor, which  displays both rSO2 and SpO2, as well as the difference between the two is available too.The system calculates the area under the curve that is an indicator of how long and deep the patient has been poorly oxygenated.

Play Powered Pediatric Nasal Mask for Non-Invasive Ventilation

Play Powered Pediatric Nasal

Philips Respironics has introduced its Wisp Pediatric Nasal Mask for non-invasive ventilation of children with obstructive sleep apnea and neuromuscular disorders. It comes with Giraffe, Seal, and Turtle, three animated toys that interact with the child and each other to take the worry away from the mask.

The Wisp Pediatric is made to be smaller and more comfortable than existing devices and features a leak correction dial that helps caretakers fix leaks without waking the child. It can work with infants as light as 22 pounds up to kids as old as seven years.

World’s First Clinical Ultra High Frequency Ultrasound

World’s First Clinical Ultra High

UJIFILM VisualSonics has introduced the world’s first clinical ultra high frequency ultrasound system. The compatible transducers operate at frequencies up to 70 MHz, providing imaging details down to 30 micrometers. Typical ultrasounds go up to about 15 MHz, but while imaging resolution is significantly improved by the Vevo MD, the depth of penetration is only a few centimeters. The system is expected to be used for imaging nerves, vasculature just below the skin, the skin itself, and potentially during surgeries to spot objects of interest and to avoid unnecessary damage. It may also find uses in neonatology and pediatrics where the small penetration depth is not as much of an issue, while smaller anatomy requires a higher imaging resolution.

Spinal Simulator for

Spinal Simulator for

BioTras, has developed  AsTris 1.0 spinal simulator for training clinicians how to perform needle placements for pain management applications. The device is essentially a representation of a human with transparent tissues so that the bones of the back and spine are clearly visible for easy insertion of needles  into the fusable thermo plastic. The bones of the simulator are visible under X-ray so procedures can be performed realistically as with a real patient.
