A knowledge of basic physics is imperative for understanding the mechanism of action of various devices
and equipment in routine clinical anaesthesia and critical care practice. The functioning of oxygen cylinders,
pressure gauges, Boyle’s anesthesia machine, breathing circuits, oxygen masks, etc. can be better understood if
the laws of physics are revised on periodic basis. In this section we revise some of the basic principles as applied
