The sad demise of Dr. M Sri Ram is a profound grief for whole of the Indian anesthesia community. I was personally connected with him with effect from mid 1960’s when I was a medicine resident at Safdarjang Hospital and Dr. Shriram was pursuing his postgraduation under Dr. G. C. Tendon at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi. Dr. Shriram had the destiny to return to Andhra Pradesh (AP) state and I joined King Edward (VII) Memorial Hospital and Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College, Mumbai. Thus, the fond memories of more than six decades spent with him overwhelm my feelings.
My first guest lecture, I delivered at Andhra State Conference at Visakhapatnam and my friendship with Sri Ram began to deepen. He was a great academician, clinically a giant, fond of teaching his students and passionate about his family. He had a royal feeling for Andhra Pradesh. He was utterly dedicated to the cause of ISA.
He was emotionally bound to his friends, and extremely modest and humane.
May his soul rest in eternal peace. Let Almighty give the courage to his family to honor the inevitability. My sincere condolences to the bereaved family and the Anesthesia fraternity of India.
